Where the typical charter school is designed to help students do what they need in order to graduate from high school, Chinquapin Prep is zeroed in on sending our students off to the ranks of higher education and beyond fully prepared and ready to excel.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a high-quality college-preparatory education to able and motivated youth from low-income families in the greater Houston area. Through rigorous curriculum and an emphasis on community service and earning what one receives, we aim to produce responsible, well-educated citizens who will become constructive leaders in their communities.

At Chinquapin Prep, we cater to highly motivated and gifted students in underserved communities in the greater Houston area. Our students come from schools where resources are lacking to meet their needs or skill level.
Once they are part of the Chinquapin community, our Houston boarding school and student character building program prepares them in the following ways:
- Students are recruited and admitted based on grades, test scores and teacher recommendations — not a lottery system.
- Chinquapin Prep starts in sixth grade, giving students ample time to prepare for the rigors of our college-prep high school curriculum.
- Our program sets the bar high, getting students to perform at, or above, grade level.
- We follow a rigorous curriculum consistent with those of the city’s most prestigious prep schools.
- Chinquapin Prep maintains a student-teacher ratio of 8 to 1, giving students a personalized educational experience.
- College counseling begins in the ninth grade, directing students toward college or university acceptance.
Admission to a four-year collegiate program is a requirement for graduation at Chinquapin Prep and 85 percent of graduates complete their college education with 36 percent of them pursuing graduate work.
