Academics

Our Approach
Academics are our priority at Chinquapin. Our faculty and leadership team play an active role in designing the curriculum for each academic course and elective. Chinquapin teachers place a lot of thought and care into their approach to instruction to ensure that all students feel academically challenged, while also building meaningful and long-lasting relationships. In addition to supporting our students’ academic growth, Chinquapin emphasizes characteristics such as honesty, integrity, responsibility, and accountability. We believe these character traits in combination with the rigorous academic program, students will have all the tools they need to stand out and be leaders in their communities.Â
Our Curriculum
English Language Arts
The Department of English at Chinquapin Preparatory School comprises a vibrant, dynamic community of faculty and students exploring literature, writing, and creative arts. Coursework emphasizes the critical reading of literary texts in order to explore how different narratives inform our understanding of the world, the thematic exploration and deeper understanding of language and voice through an assortment of literary works and genres, and the ability to read closely, think critically, and write cogently.

Social Studies
Spanish
For our heritage Spanish speakers, our curriculum is structured to foster the development of Academic Language Proficiency, literary analysis, critical thinking, analytical writing, and advanced grammar and orthographic skills. Through a deep exploration of the cultures found across Spanish-speaking countries and territories, students engage with authentic materials and texts to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and its diverse contexts. Our goal is to empower students to achieve academic language proficiency in Spanish, equipping them for success in academic and professional communities beyond Chinquapin.
For non-native speakers, our curriculum prioritizes comprehensible input, meaningful interpersonal communication development, and cultural awareness. Through immersive experiences and interactive learning activities, students actively engage in authentic language use and cultural exploration. By fostering a supportive and communicative classroom environment, we aim to cultivate bilingualism and empower students to effectively communicate in Spanish through interpersonal interactions.
