Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Chinquapin Prep! The application steps are outlined below. Please be sure that all supplemental materials contain clear images. A student application will be considered complete when we have received ALL required forms, including Teacher Recommendation Forms. The deadline for Admissions Applications for the 2025-2026 school year is April 18, 2025.

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about Chinquapin Prep and our community. We are seeking able and motivated students who are mission-aligned and demonstrate a keen interest in being a part of our small and selective community. We look forward to reviewing your application!

Step 1: Apply

Step 2: Gather Documents

We will need the following documents:

  • Most recent Income Tax Return
  • 2 years of most recent STAAR or other test scores
  • 2 years of report cards (current semester & previous school year)

Step 3: Write Essay

The Admissions Committee is interested in learning about your life experiences, so you will want to tailor your responses with personal stories that will help us get to know you better. We are looking for thoughtful, creative, and authentic stories. Be sure to check for spelling and grammar.

Applicants will write one handwritten essay of 250-500 words using the prompts provided below. Be sure to use your own words only. Chinquapin uses AI scanning tools for authenticity validation. 

Essay Prompt Options

  1. What does the word gratitude mean to you and how is this evident in your life?
  2. Have you ever connected with a character (fictional or non-fictional) that has influenced you? (Please explain)
  3. What strengths and weaknesses do you bring to your friendships?
  4. Why do you want to attend Chinquapin, and how do you think this opportunity will help you reach your future goals and dreams?
  5. What issues do you see in your community or in the world (i.e. injustice on any level)? What are you already doing, or what would you do to actively change/challenge it?

Step 4: Request Teacher Recommendations Forms

Applicants are required to submit three Teacher Recommendation Forms. You will want to give teachers plenty of time to submit a Recommendation Form to us as it typically takes 4-6 weeks. Your application is not complete until we have received these three Recommendation Forms.

  • Two Academic Core teachers (Math, Science, English, History) who know you and your strengths
  • One Special Interest teacher (Coach, Community/Troop/Religious Leader, STEM Special/Electives, Visual or Performing Arts Teacher) who knows you and your strengths

Step 5: Submit Documents

You may submit the supplemental documents by email or campus drop off.

Option 1: Email

Email the scanned attachments that are clear and carefully labeled to admissions@chinquapin.org.

  • Subject line: “Applicant/YOUR FULL NAME” (i.e. Applicant/EMILLY JASSO)
  • In the body of your email, clearly list the documents you are sending and attach all of them to the email. Include the most recent income tax return, STARR and other TEST score reports, and grades/transcripts, and an image of the handwritten essay.
  • Wait for a verification email confirming that we have received.

Option 2: Campus Drop Off

Drop off in person on our campus!

  • CALL 281-426-5551 and let us know you are coming to drop off your application
  • Set Google or Apple Maps to Chinquapin Preparatory School or manually enter our address: 2615 E Wallisville Rd. Highlands, TX. 77562
  • Use the “Gate 1” Entrance/on the East side of campus, closest to Wade Rd. When you arrive, the gate will be closed.
  • Press the down arrows and find the “MAIN OFFICE” and press the “CALL” button from the gate
  • Announce yourself with “I’m here to drop off an application.”
  • You will be buzzed in/gate will open the office is the first building on your right. You may park in any open spot and walk up the stairs to the office.

 

The following STEPS are by invitation only

Step 6: Take Admissions Test

Selected applicants will be invited to take a free Admissions test in person by appointment only. We use the Stanford 10 (math and reading) and your essays to determine your initial academic profile. There are multiple Admissions testing opportunities from January – April. See Admissions testing dates HERE.

Chinquapin must receive the following documents before receiving a test date invitation:

  • Application Form
  • Most recent Income Tax Return
  • 2 years of most recent STAAR or other test scores
  • 2 years of report cards (current semester & previous school year)
  • 1 handwritten essay

Step 7: Applicant Interview

All applicants that have made it to this phase are required to participate in a teacher-student interview, virtually or in person. Interviews are scheduled to take place Monday-Friday evenings and Saturdays.

Step 8: Summer Session (Trial Week)

After careful review of applications, selected applicants are invited to our Summer Session, a 4-day trial period held in June. These student candidates attend classes, experience student life, and spend quality time with current Chinquapin Prep students and teachers. Candidates are given an opportunity to immerse themselves in our program and demonstrate their abilities, including their academic strengths and their willingness to lean into our community-oriented culture.

Step 9: Admissions Decisions

Admissions decisions are made immediately after Summer Session and families are informed by no later than the end of the week following Summer Session. Families are given two weeks to review, sign, and return their enrollment commitment.
