Community Service

We are committed to Quid Pro Quo. Chinquapin students recognize that they are the community and thus have a significant role to play. With this in mind, they participate in community service events year-round and must complete at least six hours of community service annually; many greatly surpass that number.

In the same spirit, Chinquapin students learn about respect and accountability by caring for their learning and living spaces, specifically during daily chores. Students perform tasks, and the aggregate result is a deeper appreciation for their contributions and leadership to the school and their value to the community. To Chinquapin, community service is not a perfunctory task but rather a foundational fabric of the school.

Chinquapin emphasizes the importance of paying it forward. The idea that many give to the school without expecting anything in return resonated deeply with me. This selflessness and the exponential growth of such gifts make Chinquapin a special place.

Chinquapin students lead by example. They demonstrate what it means to be a good member of a community. Older students model the behavior for younger students. Together, they make Houston better for all of us.
