Here at Chinquapin Prep, we have developed a boarding school for AP college prep in Houston TX that includes a rigorous curriculum, knowledgeable faculty members and an emphasis on developing character and leadership qualities.

While other charter schools are focused on graduating their students, Chinquapin Prep has longer-term goals. In order to graduate from Chinquapin, a student must be accepted into a four-year collegiate program. Some of our graduates have gone on to study at such distinguished universities as Harvard, MIT and Duke.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a high-quality college-preparatory education to able and motivated youth from low-income families in the greater Houston area. Through rigorous curriculum and an emphasis on community service and earning what one receives, we aim to produce responsible, well-educated citizens who will become constructive leaders in their communities.

Chinquapin Prep accepts students starting in sixth grade. Our middle schoolers participate in our day school program and are bussed to school daily, whereas our high schoolers spend Monday through Friday on campus as boarding students. boarding school for AP college academics in Houston TX.

Boarding students live in residential dormitories during the week. This has proven to be an effective strategy for enhancing their educational experience. By staying on campus, students are:

As a part of our Houston boarding school AP college prep program, students are tasked with maintaining and working various jobs on campus. This offers them a sense of ownership in our school and allows our administration to keep operating costs in check, routing that money to be used to give underserved families access to our school.

Chinquapin Prep is focused on serving underserved families and their children. In fact, 83 percent of our families are considered economically disadvantaged and nearly all students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

In addition to our on-campus housing, we provide a sliding scale tuition model that allows financially strapped families with the opportunity to pay a reduced amount and still have their child in our program.

The average family at Chinquapin Prep pays roughly $500 per year toward the $16,000 annual tuition. When families experience even greater financial difficulties, students can earn credits by doing work on campus. Each student recognizes the opportunity that they have received and are taught to pay it forward in their work.
