houston boarding school student community service

Student community service

Here at Chinquapin Prep, we offer a unique Houston boarding school student community service that is focused on equipping our students with resources needed to be successful in college and beyond.

Where the typical charter school is designed to help students do what they need in order to graduate from high school, Chinquapin Prep is zeroed in on sending our students off to the ranks of higher education and beyond fully prepared and ready to excel.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a high-quality college-preparatory education to able and motivated youth from low-income families in the greater Houston area. how we prepare students with our boarding school student community service in houston tx

At Chinquapin Prep, we cater to highly motivated and gifted students in underserved communities in the greater Houston area. Our students come from schools where resources are lacking to meet their needs or skill level.

Once they are part of the Chinquapin community, our Houston boarding school and student character building program prepares them in the following ways:

  • Students are recruited and admitted based on grades, test scores and teacher recommendations — not a lottery system.
  • Chinquapin Prep starts in sixth grade, giving students ample time to prepare for the rigors of our college-prep high school curriculum.
  • Our program sets the bar high, getting students to perform at, or above, grade level.
  • We follow a rigorous curriculum consistent with those of the city’s most prestigious prep schools.
  • Chinquapin Prep maintains a student-teacher ratio of 8 to 1, giving students a personalized educational experience.
  • College counseling begins in the ninth grade, directing students toward college or university acceptance.

Admission to a four-year collegiate program is a requirement for graduation at Chinquapin Prep and 85 percent of graduates complete their college education with 36 percent of them pursuing graduate work. Our boarding school and student character building in Houston TX gets results and ensures that income does not have to dictate the outcome.

The history behind Chinquapin Prep and our Houston boarding school student community service

Chinquapin Prep was founded in 1969 by St John’s faculty member Bob Moore, who committed himself to bringing that same level of college-prep education to an underserved population. It has evolved into a co-ed, private college preparatory boarding and day school that sends every graduating senior to a four-year college or university. Some of these students land at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Duke and MIT.

Led by just four directors, the school takes pride in its admirable faculty retention rate. The familial aspect of the school that is grounded in its heritage is an integral part of the culture.

Donations keep our boarding school student community service in Houston TX moving

Chinquapin Prep is privately funded, fueled by the donation dollars from individuals, corporations and foundations. Students and their families pay a sliding scale tuition, which means that their tuition bill hinges on their income. The average family pays roughly $500 a year.

Each student is instilled with the motto “Quid Pro Quo,” which means “something for something.” It’s this motto that motivates them to contribute to the maintenance and upkeep of campus. By participating in this fashion, they establish a sense of ownership in their school; they truly have skin in the game.

Chinquapin Prep’s Houston boarding school student community service invites you to give generously. Or, if you have a motivated student from an underserved school district, please connect with our team and learn more about the admissions process.
